Mamoz *
The immense shield of sea burnished
In dusk and inverted for warlike Mars,
Having relinquished all toil, finally,
Can be found in high Olympia.
Sheer on the Attic heights, populated
Almost uniquely with spear-like poplar,
The only sign of Homeric strife, Poseidon,
Audibly to be found snoring away in the bay,
Or anywhere along the coast, along with the
Other peaceful gods, so that this iconic brand,
Branded upon the sturdy brown bottle, fermenting
Love alone, whispers in your ear, conspiratorially.
While, the only banner being of Egyptian cotton
Flies majestically for your somewhat twilight years.
* I wrote a number of poems in Corfu, the clue to this one is in the title...
