Duality

Duality

When I think of you, which is not often,

I see a great sewer, the pipe broken

Pouring effluent daily into the great river,

The river where young lovers swim languorously.

Atrocious image, I know, yet wholly you.

Opportunistic, deceitful and proud;

It’s incredible, how pride fills the lustful,

The downright egotistical and utterly callous.

There is another, other than you,

Who burns talismanic and erupts like a rose

Upon a bookcase illuminated by a strobe.

And every morning, as if at prayer,

I offer up my devotions to the rose

Whose labial folds encompass everything.
