The wonderful Edwin A. Sellors of The Ragged Lion Journal in the UK did a wonderful thing after I sent him a podcast of my latest work The Eroica Variations, he put it to film by using montage techniques. Edwin is fascinated by old black and white films, as am I, and I think the film really works as a visual backdrop to my voice. A short note on 'my voice'.
This is the first recording I have ever done where I have deliberately adopted a neutral register, and just followed the iambic pentameter of the poem, using the syllables to count out the internal beat that is driving along the rhythm of the long poem, remember, this is just the first five sonnets of the piece and lasts almost 8 minutes in recording time. The full poem goes on for another 43 sonnets.... that's why I call it an epic poem - hence The Eroica Variations as a title.
Anyway, I would like to express my deepest appreciation to Edwin for putting the film together, it was a lovely thing to do. He literally made the film the minute after he heard the recording, I love working with such spontaneity, as it is a reflexive action, which you gotta' trust, in this business - the business of living!
Anyway, much thanks again ED! You're a star in a very dim and obscure universe indeed.
