Beethoven by Andy Warhol
Beethoven
For Daniel Wade
The
breath of harnessed pulmonary winds
Which
orchestrate the wind section
Paralleling
the storms is Beethoven;
The
great wind will of his mind.
The
very breath inhaled by the players
Likened
to the rose of winds,
His
symphonies and concertos playing out
Offering
direction to the longitudes and latitudes
Of
the great skies and plains of his many moods.
Hearken
to the maple of the bassoons,
African
blackwood in the clarinets and oboes.
Hear
the superb craft volleying along the walls
Of
the innumerable concert halls of old Europe,
Then gage
the mammoth in the awakening silence.
