Mary Magdalene by Marc Di Saverio
Song of the Highest Tower
for Marc Di Saverio
Only through maximum extension will we ever find peace
On this earth. Love is the metaphor.
Gargantuan appetites will only see us through.
Wolf and gorge upon rocks and thighs
Gentle Alphas whose crucifixion is rose-
Coloured, just as Homer's fingertips of dawn,
Will come trumpeting with cloud and duty.
Rosa mundi - rose of this crucified world
Which lies torn in the violent bloom of our words,
Creating a Venice of the mind whose lagoons and belfries
Toll alternate histories embracing both Christian
And Babylon, singing the Orient in each dip of the oars,
The plaintive croon of the Gondoliers
Pealing gently back the skin of the waters.
